Safe Streets, Not Gun Grab

Despite admitting the program will be a failure, Liberal Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree announced the full roll-out of the Liberal gun grab, and that gun owners who fail to declare their firearms by March 31, 2026 will be considered in violation of the law once the amnesty period expires.

Key Messages:

  • The Liberals’ massively expensive gun confiscation program is a masterclass in total chaos and mismanagement, an unserious program by an unserious government that is designed to fail.
  • While the Liberals waste nearly $750 million to take firearms away from law-abiding licensed and tested firearms-owners, with two-thirds going to administration alone, gun crime at the hands of repeat violent offenders continues to grow.
  • The Liberals let gun crime explode by 130% by,
    • failing to stop illegally smuggled guns used in most gun crimes from coming across the border, 
    • taking away mandatory jail time for violent gun crimes in Bill C-5,
    • allowing over 17,000 known criminals to enter through their broken immigration system, 
    • and bringing in Liberal bail that puts repeat violent offenders back on our streets under the least onerous conditions with bill C-75.
  • Conservatives will crack down on gun crime and bring safer streets:
    • We will repeal Liberal easy bail and bring mandatory jail for violent gun crimes. 
    • We will secure our ports and our borders and stem the flow of illegal firearms entering our country.
    • And we will deport any non-citizen who visits Canada and commits crime. 
  • Canadians deserve to feel safe in their communities again after a decade of out-of-control crime and soft Liberal policies.
  • Only Conservatives support common-sense firearms policies that stand for the rights of law-abiding gunowners, that keep guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, keep repeat violent offenders in jail and keep Canadians safe.
