The Liberals’ Gun Buyback Program

“The Liberals flawed buyback program is an attack on legal gun owners. Mark Carney has admitted “the vast majority of firearms, illegal firearms, firearms used in crime come across our border,” yet the Liberals are continuing with a confiscation program that goes after legal, trained, tested and licensed Canadian firearms owners. That includes confiscating hunting rifles from Indigenous people exercising their treaty rights to hunt.

After a decade of Liberal policies, gun crime has increased dramatically. The government has failed to stop illegal guns from being smuggled across our borders, repealed mandatory jail time for violent gun crimes, weakened bail laws that put repeat offenders back on the streets, and allowed thousands of criminals to enter Canada through a broken immigration system. Confiscating firearms from responsible and vetted owners does nothing to address these root causes.

Conservatives believe Canadians deserve to feel safe in their communities. That means focusing on criminals, not law-abiding citizens. Conservatives will crack down on violent crime by repealing Liberal bail policies, restoring mandatory jail time for serious gun offences, securing our borders and ports to stop illegal guns, and deporting non-citizens who commit crimes in Canada.
